JULIA SCHMIT & ANNE FATH

Can you introduce yourself?
We are two interior design friends who met while studying at the École bleue. We've been inseparable ever since our first year.
Your decorating mantra?
We don't have a mantra, but we live from our passion, which makes us happy every day.
What do you think of good taste?
It's something very abstract and specific to each individual. Everyone sets the bar for good taste based on their culture, education, and sensibilities.
If you were a room in the house?
The kitchen.
It is both a convivial room where happiness is created and a very intimate place where one can indulge without having to exchange glances.

The top 3 on your bucklet list?
- Working on a hotel project
- Travel to Japan
- Gliding in a microlight
If you were an artist?
Charlotte Perriand, because she is a designer who has been able to express her art in different forms: architecture, interior design, design, photography, etc.
Your dream project?
A hotel, and why not by the sea.
Your current obsession?
Leopard print has been our obsession forever.
Stripes are catching our eye right now.

Your commitment for tomorrow?

The world of Julia & Anne
Working hand in hand
Each of us manages our own projects within the agency, but there's a real exchange throughout the design and construction monitoring process. We work as a group and are very close-knit with all our colleagues; every opinion counts.
Your DNA?
Spaces with a vision that resonates with our clients. Custom-made joinery, color, and light.
Your favorite playground: untouched or clean?
We love it when everything has to be rethought, when there's a real challenge. Seeing a project evolve is very rewarding, especially when we feel like we've truly helped the client translate what they wanted.
Brighten up without loading
Bright colors in splashes can easily brighten up a space, as can cleverly chosen wall art.

The right palette
Once the walls are ready to be painted, we work room by room with our color charts, taking into account the room's intended use and brightness. We guide our clients based on their tastes and the space.

Structure the space and give perspective
We like to play with filters, glass roofs, creating views between two spaces thanks to an open niche for example.
Materials library
We like materials that are meaningful to the space we're working in. Sometimes we contrast it or, on the contrary, continue the story with a material that recalls the era or the building. Custom-made materials are particularly important for joinery so that they blend perfectly into the space.
Dress to personalize
We love using color in objects. They will enliven and reveal a room that we have treated in a very simple way, with a major shade of white, for example.

How to shake up an interior that’s too bland?
Wallpaper is always a great alternative to add character to an interior that is too plain.
