What is striking about interior designer Marion Coëtte’s work is the expression of her sensitivity. One enters a world imbued with delicacy, meticulous attention to detail, and immaculate spaces sprinkled with touches of color. “When you enter someone’s home, you discover much more than just a place to live: you enter their world. Observing an interior is therefore a bit like reading an open book into the personality of its occupant.”

Marion, can you introduce yourself?

My name is Marion Coëtte and I am an interior designer in the Bordeaux region. After obtaining a diploma in arts and crafts from the École Boulle and a master’s degree in spatial, color and light design, specializing in interior architecture, I created the Marion Coëtte agency in 2017. For the past eight years, we have been helping clients renovate their interiors.

Your decorating mantra?

I believe that by renovating and decorating our clients’ interiors, we contribute to their daily and personal well-being. And that is priceless.

What do you think of the concept of good taste?

In our line of work, that word is very subjective. Everyone’s tastes are personal, and that’s what makes our job so rewarding: being able to create unique spaces with different and sometimes unexpected combinations. That’s why clients call us.

If you were a room in the house?

The room: warm and comfortable.

Your dream project?

The design and fitting out of a hotel or guesthouse in the mountains.

If you were an artist?

Antoni Gaudi, I have always loved his work with shapes, colors, and materials. Always bold.

Your current obsession?

I’d like to fill entire rooms with wallpaper!

The top 3 on your bucket list?

  • A wooden house with a view
  • Returning to Canada with family
  • Take the time to live

Your commitment to a better tomorrow?

I continue to advise my clients on more thoughtful renovations: less demolition, more clever solutions. We also like to prioritize recyclable materials, especially for furniture and decor.

The interior, a reflection of personality?

Without a doubt. When you enter someone’s home, you discover much more than just a place to live: you enter their world. The objects, the colors, the order or the disorder—all of this reveals something about the person who lives there. Observing an interior is therefore a bit like reading an open book into the personality of its occupant.

Bright, dark, or chiaroscuro?

Chiaroscuro, to create shadows, depth, and volume. And the effect is always immediate!

Round off the corners

In interior design, curves bring softness, fluidity, and visual harmony. Unlike straight lines, they soften spaces and foster a more welcoming atmosphere. In a custom project, curves also allow for better adaptation to the architecture of the space, optimize circulation, and open up perspectives, especially in small spaces.

Details that matter

Always! The details are what reveal the value of our work. We are here to observe, refine, and perfect this word. This is what will make an interior unique and enhance its value over time.

Separate the spaces

Yes! This allows you to organize an interior in a functional and aesthetically pleasing way, creating distinct zones (living room, office, dining area) while maintaining a feeling of openness, especially in small spaces or open-plan rooms. How? You can use furniture, curtains, and rugs to define the zones, or play with colors and lighting. The idea is to structure without necessarily partitioning.

Color contrasts

Colors, a vast subject indeed! In our line of work, we must first reassure our clients so they feel confident enough to take the plunge. And it’s often around color that questions arise. Yet, we manage to work with color in all our projects, whether it’s vibrant or soft, punchy or pastel; otherwise, the materials take over. Color gives an interesting sense of volume to a space, making it warmer and defining different areas. Our best combinations have been the layering of red, green, and yellow in a living space.

Inspiring materials

We work with materials when color is somewhat absent. We love wood, natural fibers, terracotta, concrete, metal, and lime. Each material has its own role, both in the layout of a house and in the furniture and decorative elements that will furnish it.

What is your definition of the ideal interior?

The place where we live plays a vital role in our daily well-being. Whether it’s a house, an apartment, or even just a room, the interior often reflects our personality, tastes, and needs. For me, the ideal interior isn’t just beautiful; it’s a place that is comfortable, practical, and welcoming, where I can feel safe and at ease.
