In conversation with Zoé

What to do when you are mad about interior design and your favorite store has had to close...
A lesson in interior style: learn from the pros from the comfort of your own home
We turn to the interior designers who we particularly admire and who have been kind enough to share their tips with us.
Style advice, design tips and decorating wisdom.
Today we talk to
Zoé de Las Cases

Zoé, can you introduce yourself?
My name is Zoé de Las Cases and I'm a decorator, illustrator, graphic designer and designer.
Basically I do things that are visually creative!

Your decorating mantra?
« To give your daily live a dream-like quality and transform your home into a cosy cocoon. »
What do you think of the concept of good taste?
I think the question of taste is complicated.
It's about balance between objects and colours.
Even an object that is ugly and kitsch can be transformed into something interesting.
I think that the expression « to have good taste » bothers me,
it's perhaps a bit too abstract ;-) I would say that even bad taste can be part of good taste.
If you were a room?

The kitchen, without hesitation!
I am a little greedy and very chatty ;-)
It's the heart of the house,
where everything happens!
Your bucket list ?
🚐 To go around the world
for 6 months with my family
in a caravan.
🎅🏽 To go to Mongolia, to see the
white nights in Saint Petersburg,
to see Father Christmas in Lapland
🌎 Travel, always and forever...
🗒 In short, the list is long, hahahaha!
If you were an artist?
David Hockney, I'm a big fan!
Your dream project?
I'm working on it right now: a house entirely dedicated to creativity!
Zoé's tips
Above all, take the time to live in the space you are decorating, it's fundamental.
And try to see decorating a bit like meditating, try to enjoy it and learn to dream!

A touch of colour
In my house bright white is the predominant shade. I introduce colour here and there, with objects, flowers, a chair or a door... Coulours have always given me joy creatively.
Lots and lots of cushions
I adore cushions, especially on a bed! You need to have lots, in every shape and colour. Accumulation makes a room so warm and welcoming!
A show stopping entrance

An entrance should be quick pared back and minimal. You've just come in, you need to feel calm, to be able to breathe. Choose simple, beautiful objects, a bench, a coat rack and some baskets and you're done!

Lights on !
As far as lighting is concerned I advise using dimmers everywhere. You can change the atmosphere according to the time of day or the intensity of the outside light.
The soul of a space

Think about keeping as much as you can from the original space.
Anything with character should stay: floors or old doors for example. There is nothing more beautiful than the patina of age!
